Privacy Policy

Overview
BreakAway ("we", "us", or "our") is a social platform for meeting people in real life through shared plans and activities. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect when you use BreakAway, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights. By creating an account or using BreakAway, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app. This policy is accessible at any time at https://gobreakaway.app/privacy.
What we collect
When you sign up and use BreakAway, we collect: • First name and date of birth • Profile photo • Gender • City and country • Email address • Your GPS location (while the app is active) • Plans and groups you create or join • Messages you send in plan chats • Invite codes you generate or redeem • Push notification tokens • App usage data — screens visited, actions taken, session replays (see Third-party services below)
How we use your data
We use your data to: • Show your profile to nearby users only when you actively choose to appear on the map • Match you with relevant plans and people around you • Enable chat in plans and groups • Send push notifications about activity relevant to you • Enforce safety rules, blocking, and reports • Understand how the app is used and improve it We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.
Third-party services
BreakAway uses the following third-party services that process your data: • Supabase (supabase.com) — database, authentication, and file storage. Your profile, messages, and media are stored on Supabase infrastructure hosted on AWS. Supabase is GDPR-compliant. • PostHog (posthog.com) — product analytics. PostHog records which screens you visit and actions you take. It also captures session replays (recordings of how you interact with the app interface, such as taps and navigation). This helps us improve the app. No payment data or passwords are captured. You can opt out by contacting us. • Expo / Expo Push Notifications (expo.dev) — used to deliver push notifications to your device. Your push token is stored and used solely for notification delivery. We do not share your data with any other third parties.
Location
BreakAway uses your device location to show you plans and people nearby. You start hidden. When you pick a mood from Home, people up for plans nearby can see you're in that mood — never your exact spot, just that you're somewhere around. Joining or creating a live plan can also let you appear nearby while that plan is on. You can step back any time from Home, or wait for visibility to fade out on its own. Your exact GPS coordinates are never shared with other users — they only see that you're somewhere around, with a rough distance. Location is only used while the app is open. We do not track your location in the background. Location access is requested through your device's permission system. You can control or revoke it any time through your device settings.
Who can see your profile
Your profile is visible only to registered BreakAway users. It is not publicly searchable on the internet. Your map visibility is opt-in and temporary. Other users can see your first name, profile photo, city, plan preferences, and current mood only while you have chosen to show up nearby or while you are participating in a live plan. You can hide yourself again at any time from Home. Your email address, exact location, and date of birth are never visible to other users.
Data storage and security
Your data is stored on Supabase infrastructure (AWS, us-east-1 region). Access is protected by row-level security policies — users can only access data they are explicitly permitted to view. Messages in plan chats are stored on our servers. We do not offer end-to-end encryption for in-app messages at this time. We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data, but no system is completely secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at gooffline.social@gmail.com.
Data retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account in-app or by emailing gooffline.social@gmail.com, your profile and live app data are removed from the app. Some backup or safety records may be retained for longer where required by law or for legitimate safety purposes.
Your rights
You have the right to: • Access the personal data we hold about you • Correct inaccurate data • Request deletion of your data • Object to or restrict how your data is used • Withdraw consent at any time (this will not affect prior processing) To delete your account, use the in-app delete account option or contact us at gooffline.social@gmail.com.
Children
BreakAway is for users aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, their account will be removed and their data deleted.
Governing law
This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of India, including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and applicable rules. Any disputes arising from this policy are subject to the jurisdiction of courts in India. If you access the app from outside India, you do so at your own risk and are responsible for complying with local laws.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. If we make significant changes, we will notify you in-app and update the effective date above. Continued use of BreakAway after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
